Thursday 29th to Friday 30th September 2022
Please note access information will be emailed to all registered delegates prior to the event going live.
The Edinburgh International Course in Medicine for the Older Adult will continue as an online meeting in 2022, and we are delighted to have lined up excellent speakers from the UK and worldwide to cover a variety of topics relevant to anyone involved in the care of older people.
It is possible to book the two day course or individual half or full days, and this online event allows the opportunity for delegates to watch the presentations live, or at their convenience for up to 28 days following the original broadcast.
Although of particular value to doctors working in geriatric medicine at consultant or trainee level, many general practitioners, allied health professionals and specialist nurses may also find the course very relevant and worthwhile.
The course is designed to update you on the theory and practice of geriatric medicine with many practical talks, as well as wide ranging discussions on the holistic management of the older adult.
In 2022 the course will cover the following themes:
- What’s new in clinical management of commonly encountered conditions in the older adult, including diabetes, heart failure, stroke, and frailty.
- Updates on the latest management and treatment guidelines of delirium, depression and dementia.
- How to interpret abnormal blood test results in the older adult – including electrolyte disturbance and deranged thyroid function tests.
- Management of common haematological issues
- Living well in the Care Home environment
- Diagnosis and management of urinary and faecal incontinence
- Personalised medicine for older adults:
- promotion of compassionate, personalised care of older adults with frailty
- developing a culturally attuned health care system for older adults
- developing personal and electronic health records for older adults
The meeting will close with a session on end of life issues. This will comprise of a talk on optimising the palliative care for older adults, and a discussion about what makes a good death.
We hope to welcome delegates back to the College for the course in 2024.
