Overview

It is exciting times to be in as a practicing gastroenterologist. Gastroenterology as a specialty is facing challenges on several fronts. On one hand it is rapidly progressing and embracing new technology and ideas. On the other hand there is immense pressure in delivering high quality care whilst managing the demand and capacity gap. We have designed a very engaging programme this year to cover these aspects of the specialty. The programme promises to be of interest to not just the gastroenterologists but also general physicians, colleagues in acute medicine, doctors in training and students interested in the specialty.

The first part of the programme is dedicated to topics relevant to manage the demand /capacity gap and improve efficiency of delivering care by exploring development of streamlined pathways and modern approach to outpatient care. We then focus on an important public health strategy which has borne some early success.

The afternoon sessions look at understanding the new developments in endoscopic management of early cancers; eosinophilic oesophagitis and GI manifestations of novel cancer therapies. We then focus on another emergency, climate emergency. How as gastroenterologists we can understand and help address this issue and how we can go green.

Finally we close the day by coming back to day to day clinical practice by reflecting on some case studies in common clinical scenarios where we keep the discussions interactive.

The programme promises to deliver a very interesting day where we can all take away valuable insights to help with our clinical practice.

This event is open to all grades of medical, health care and scientific staff and to students. If you are unsure about eligibility, or the correct fee category, please contact the RCPE member of staff responsible for the event (see Fees page).

Please note that on occasion event programmes may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

All relevant events are approved for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). To receive a CPD certificate delegates must have completed the online attendance register/feedback survey. The survey will close and certificates will be issued 2 weeks after the event.

Certificates cannot be issued after the survey has closed.

A professional photographer may be in attendance at this event. Photographs may be used by the College in digital and printed publicity material. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let a member of staff know at the registration desk.

Access

A wheelchair lift and internal lift are in place at the College, allowing access to the conference centre and historic rooms. However, as a listed building, meeting rooms 4 & 5 have restricted access. For further information and assistance, please contact the Event Co-ordinator responsible for the event.

An induction loop system is available in the Great Hall and Conference Centre Auditorium.
