Overview

The RCPE Cardiff - Update in clinical medicine symposium taking place Friday 21 June 2024 is designed to provide high-quality education for physicians, medical trainees and allied healthcare professionals on a broad range of topics with focus on management of acute medical emergencies and clinical advancements in the field in recent years.

The topics covered during this one day symposium will include:

Update in management of acute decompensated heart failure covering latest recommendations for the treatment of patients with heart failure, indications and role of SGLT2, Finerenone and IV Iron infusion in this cohort.
Initial work up and management of patients admitted with acute liver failure.
Updated NICE guidelines for management of Type 2 Diabetes and emerging therapeutic options including dual incretins.
Assessment and management of frail adults in an acute medical intake.
Diagnosis and management of neurological emergencies in an acute medical take.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Olwen Williams OBE, Consultant Physician in Genitourinary/HIV Medicine based at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to deliver the keynote lecture on The future of clinical medicine - reflections from the past that influence the future.

Alongside our renowned speakers we also delighted to welcome our trainees to partake in the Case Presentation session.

The RCPE Cardiff Update in clinical medicine symposium will provide an opportunity to interact and network with your regional colleagues. Registration is open for physicians, medical trainees & allied health professionals across all medical specialties. This symposium provides valuable CPD and opportunities for learning and discussion for a wide audience.

Refugee doctors – free places are available to refugee doctors who are Associate Members of the College. Associate Membership for refugee doctors is available free of charge. Please visit our website for instructions on how to join, and then apply to the Event Co-ordinator for your free place.

If you have to cancel your place within seven days of this event, we regret that we are unable to provide a refund. However, you may nominate someone else to take your place at the discretion of the event co-ordinator.

All relevant events are approved for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). To receive a CPD certificate delegates must have completed the online feedback survey. The survey will close 28 days after the original broadcast of the event, with certificates being issued shortly after this.

Directions to the Venue

For travel by rail, Cardiff Central station is a 20-minute walk or a short taxi ride from the hotel, and Birmingham, Manchester, or London Paddington are just two hours by rail.

For travel by car, simply tap the postcode CF10 5SD into your sat-nav. There are two paid car parks available adjacent to the hotel, charged at £24 per 24 hours. Guests are able to pay directly with the hotel for the Parking Eye car park in reception.
