Horizontal Overview Following successful events in previous years, the College will be hosting a programme of Schools Medicine Lectures this autumn. We aim for these sessions to be informative and helpful to your students in fourth or fifth year who are considering a career in medicine, and to those in their final year in the process of applying to medical school. These lectures are free to attend. Programme 2018 autumn programme 26/09/18 1600 - 1730 Becoming a doctor Chair: Dr Marcus Lyall, Chair of RCPE Trainees and Members' Committee Current medical students and newly qualified doctors will explain what it is like to study medicine and will discuss life as a young doctor. Refreshments from 1515 in the New Library 10/10/18 1600 - 1730 Ethical dilemmas in medicine Chair: Professor Kenneth Boyd, Professor of Medical Ethics at the University of Edinburgh An interactive panel discussion will examine some of the challenging moral and ethical decisions taken by patients and doctors today. Refreshments from 1515 in the New Library 14/11/18 1630 - 1730 Topical medical issues Professor Derek Bell, RCPE President/Chair in Acute Medicine at Imperial College, London Prof Bell will discuss the importance of medicine to society and the key topics you will study at medical school, with a question and answer session. Refreshments from 1545 in the New Library Fees Events are free of charge to attend but spaces are limited. Teachers at Edinburgh schools can book places for pupils who are interested in attending or pupils can book places directly. Further Information Please note that on occasion event programmes may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. Access As a listed building, the College has restricted disabled access. A wheelchair lift is provided at the rear of the College giving access to themain historic rooms, but not all of the smaller rooms used for educational events. Parking is available on street (metered) or at the Omni Centre car park, 10 minute's walk from the College. Bicycle racks are available for cyclists at the door to 8 Queen Street.
