Workshop overview
In the current pandemic more than ever, we may find ourselves experiencing emotional challenges such as fear, blame and criticism. This 'one-day' workshop will explore the emotional elements of human factors, enabling us all to be kinder to ourselves and others.
Building on successful presentations via webinars as part of the RCPE Covid-19 updates and the FutureLearn Critical Care resource, Dorothy and Graham are offering these online workshops. We are confident that this format will allow high qaulity discussion via slides, videos and participant interaction using the break-out room facility on Zoom.
The workshops are relevant for all healthcare professionals. We will provide a safe space to explore the way our brains process our emotions, including system 1 and 2 thinking, meeting difficult emotions, self-compassion and the power of forgiveness.
We will explore the work of Kristin Neff, Chris Germer, David Hamilton and Desmond Tutu to understand the theory of this work and relate our learning to practice. The acquired new knowledge and practical skills will enable you to respond to difficult moments in your lives with kindness, care and compassion.
"When we give ourselves compassion, the tight knot of negative self-judgement starts to dissolve - replaced by a feeling of peaceful, connected acceptance" - Kristin Neff
We will invite you to participate in exercises to relate your unique experiences to clinical practice using case studies, videos, stories and personal reflection.
Meeting our own emotions, acknowledging out imperfections and being more forgiving of ourselves and others has been shown to improve our physical health and well-being.
