Overview
In the wake of COP26, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh will be running a series of short evening webinars on climate change and health. These webinars will consider both the direct and indirect impact of the climate crisis on health as well as looking at the impact our health systems have on the climate and what adaptations we all need to consider and prepare for in our daily practice.
Over this 5 part series we will hear from colleagues and renowned experts from around the world on the impact of climate change within their own local area and beyond, health service and specialty, and the actions they, and we, need to be urgently taking. These evening webinars which are open to all, including members of the public, and free to attend will be held on Thursday evenings at 18.00hrs – 19.30hrs (GMT time) starting on 9 December and running until May 2022
This is the third webinar in our five part series of evening webinars and we are delighted to have the following phenomenal speakers presenting on the strategies for mitigation and adaptation and chaired by Professor Alan Dangour, Director of Climate and Health at Wellcome.
-
Professor Philip Landrigan, Director, Programme for Global Health and the Common Good
-
Dr Judith Omumbo, Vector-borne disease epidemiologist, climate change enthusiast and researcher
-

The series will continue with two further evening webinars on:

Clinical snapshots from around the globe - How climate change and its associated consequences impacts on health in different countries around the world.
deadline: 25 March 2022
We would like to invite our Fellows and Members who are witnessing the impact of climate change on their clinical practice and patients to submit a 300 word abstract on the changes they have seen in their localities, and the changes they are having to make in their practice in order to adapt. For example – the impact of flooding, coastal erosion, air pollution or temperature changes on human health in their region. Please send your abstracts to m.farquhar@rcpe.ac.uk no later than 12:00 noon (GMT) on Friday, 25 March 2022.
Selected abstracts will be shared on our Education Portal, and the Organising Committee of the online COP26 Legacy Series will select three of the abstracts and invite the authors to prepare a 5 minute presentation which will be pre-recorded and shown at our Online COP26 Legacy Series Evening Webinar on Thursday 21 April 2022 which will focus on clinical snapshots from around the globe.
We very much look forward to receiving the abstracts highlighting the work that our Fellows and Members are doing in relation to climate change and health across the globe.
