Pressure on Gastroenterology services has increased over the last decade, especially with the pandemic preventing face-to-face clinics. Our session on “Gastrointestinal (GI) services in the 21st Century” aims to discuss ways to streamline service, introduce e-health and social media, whilst ensuring patients receive safe, effective and personalised care. There is a multi-disciplinary session on transition services in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Liver Disease, to reflect the importance of developing these patient pathways, alongside aids to adopting a local service.
Two of the most common reasons for referral remain Functional Gut Disorders and Anaemia. Our Keynote Speaker will explain the place of enteral nutrition in patients with Functional Gut Disorders. This will provide practical advice for decision-making in these complex situations. Our “Anaemia” session will cover the latest British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) guidelines including referral, investigation and management of this common, and often asymptomatic, finding. Finally we have a session on Cytosponge, a non-invasive technology that can reduce pressures on endoscopy, whilst identifying patients with Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer. This talk will be able to help the audience understand the place for Cytosponge in Primary and Secondary Care pathways.
This symposium is suitable for all members of the Gastroenterology Multi Disciplinary Team: Consultant and Trainee Gastroenterologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Dieticians, Psychologists, Students and GPs.
