Overview
We would like to invite you to join us for the next evening meeting in our PROFESSIONALISM IN MEDICINE series: Supporting Your Team Through Uncertainty and Change.
Everyone working in the NHS is used to working with systems that are in flux but the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to deal with much more uncertainty and change than ever before. This evening we will hear from three expert speakers about how to manage these challenges.
Learning Objectives:
• To recognise the early signs of a system and individuals under stress
• To support team members effectively whilst providing safe patient care
• To harness the strengths and skills of the multidisciplinary team to improve effectiveness and well-being
Leading Change: what have we learned from the pandemic
Dr Helen Bevan is the Chief Transformation Officer at NHS Horizons with over 25 years experience of leading change in NHS England.
NHS Horizons is a source of ideas and knowledge to enable the spread of improvements at scale. The team uses a variety of tools and approaches including social movement thinking, community organising, improvement science, accelerated design and digital connectivity. It champions the role of emerging leaders, students and trainees at the forefront of radical change. Dr Bevan is acknowledged globally for her expertise and energy for large scale change in health and care.
Strength in Numbers: how a multidisciplinary approach can improve patient care and well-being
Ms Trudy Guinan is a Lead Immunotherapy Nurse at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool. She co-ordinates an immunotherapy service across ten medical specialities and provides treatments for patients in their home and workplaces as well as traditional clinic settings.
Lessons in Upheaval: how to cope when it's all going wrong
Dr Louise Millar is a Consultant Physician at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin
Dr Millar is an experienced consultant physician working in a busy District General hospital in the North East of Scotland. She juggles multiple roles including associate Director of Medical Education, Foundation Programme Director for Dr Gray’s and Clinical Lead for Medicine. She is also a secondary care appraiser, co-chair of Dr Gray’s Clinical Forum and an Educational Supervisor. Dr Gray’s has faced considerable pressure because of staff shortages across multiple specialties, and Dr Millar has developed a wealth of experience and a considerable skill set in managing uncertainty and supporting teams through change.
This event will be delivered entirely online as recordings for individual access. We have asked all speakers to record their talks in advance. Delegates will be able to submit questions via Slido and we will ask speakers to address the most popular questions live on the night and we will post responses to any unanswered questions on our EMU pages.
Talks will be available to view on-demand from 10 March 2021 for 28 days. Due to these exceptional circumstances, external CPD credits will continue to be issued for individual access in the same way as it is for attending at a live-link site or at the College in Edinburgh.
