Overview
The International Course in Medicine for the Older Adult has moved online this year due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation. Whereas normally we would welcome colleagues from around the world to the College, this year we are able to make the Course available to people in their own homes and workplaces by going online.
The Course is aimed at health care practitioners who specialise, or have a major interest, in the care of older people. Although of particular value to doctors at consultant or senior trainee level, many general practitioners, allied health professionals and specialist nurses will also find this two day online course very relevant and worthwhile.
In 2021 the course will include the following themes:
- The Acutely Ill Older Person
- Conditions commonly affecting the Older Adult – including delirium, syncope, stroke, myeloma, eye disorders, and skin changes
- Care of the Older Person in Care Homes, their own homes, and using telemedicine
- How to support ageing in good health
- Frailty – defining and managing it
- Optimising nutrition
- Clinical examination of the older adult; a vital skill
The course is designed to update you on the theory and practice of elderly adult care. It includes lectures by experts from around the world on topics of current and practical relevance. Each presentation will be followed by a question and answer session, allowing delegates to pose questions using the Slido Q&A system.
The online course allows the opportunity for delegates to watch the presentations live, or at their convenience over the following 28 days. Delegates can book for full day attendances or half day attendances, increasing the flexibility for delegates to choose the areas of the course that interests them most.
I do hope that you can join us.
Dr Conor Maguire,
Course Director
