Organised jointly by RCPE and NHS Lothian, we have deliberately structured the course so that much of the learning will take place in small groups of 4 or fewer, with teaching delivered by trained faculty, many of whom have previous examining experience. Patients, surrogates and the setting for the course are all up to the standard expected in the PACES exam itself.

An intensive revision course over three days covering all MRCP PACES stations.

Structured bedside teaching with emphasis on examination technique, presentation, history and communication skills and highlighting what examiners are looking for in the PACES exam.
Small groups of 4 candidates per lecturer throughout the teaching sessions of the course to encourage a relaxed and supportive learning environment.
Carefully chosen clinical cases with a variety of diagnoses and well-trained surrogates covering all the MRCP PACES stations with special emphasis on common themes and problem stations.
Station 5 in new format (Integrated Clinical Assessment)
Guidance to achieve the new PACES pass standard in each of the seven skills (A-G) assessed in PACES exam

Please note that delegates who attend this course in Edinburgh will not be able to sit their PACES exam in Edinburgh. However, delegates may also have the RCPE arrange their PACES exam at a centre in another city where the RCPE also runs the exams.

Please note that your details will be shared with the Clinical Skills & Assessment Centre, Western General Hospital solely for the purposes of organising this course.

The hospital site is well serviced by public transport, for up-to-date information about routes and times, please contact Traveline Scotland 0871 200 22 33.

By Car
There is limited parking on the hospital grounds for which there is a charge. Please be aware of the one-way-system accessed by Telford Road. Limited disabled parking is available to the side of the CSAC.

By Rail
Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket Rail Stations are 10 minutes away. National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.

Driving Directions

From Edinburgh Airport: Exit the airport and take the 1st exit onto A8 for Edinburgh city centre. Turn left at A902 (Maybury Road) and continue through the roundabout to take the right lane onto the A90 Queensferry Road. Continue until A902 (Telford Road). After 1st set of lights, turn right into Western General Hospital Site. Follow the one-way system to CSAC.

From Waverley Station: Exit station, turning left onto Waverley Bridge, at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto A8/Market St. Continue to follow A8 crossing Princes Street and George Street. Continue onto Hanover Street turning first left at Queen Street. Continue onto Albyn Place, Glenfinlas St, Ainslie Place, Great Stuart St and Randolph Crescent turning right onto A90/Queensferry St. Continue onto Belford Road and Queensferry Terrace. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A90/Queensferry Rd. Turn right at South Groathill Ave. Turn right at A902/Telford Rd. Turn first right into Western General Hospital Site. Follow the one-way system to CSAC.
