Patient Flow in Acute Settings: Moving from Crisis to Solution

We are faced with daily accounts of the current challenges. At one end, people waiting to get into hospital who desperately need treatment, and at the other, the impact of delayed discharge and the difficulty in accessing appropriate care in the community. The picture presented by the media is one of a Health and Social Care system in crisis.

The College’s Lay Advisory Committee is promoting this evening discussion to scope the problem, drawing on the experience of front-line clinicians, highlighting underlying causes, listening to the impact on patients, but most importantly, looking at some of the ways forward, the possible solutions that clinicians and their colleagues across Health and Social Care might be involved in implementing.
