We are delighted to announce the programme for the upcoming SSP meeting in October. We have a rich and diverse set of topics, with nationally and internationally renowned speakers from around the UK. The themes this year will cover aspects of cardiology, frailty, lung infection, acute kidney injury, infectious diseases and much more! Prof Angela Vincent from Oxford is going to talk on the challenging entity of Autoimmune Encephalitis, and Prof Dame Anna Dominiczak from Glasgow is going to discuss the concept of Precision Medicine. We are certain this is going to be an informative and sociable meeting, and we hope very much that you can join us.
Trainee Session:
Our popular trainee session will be taking place on the Thursday morning facilitated by Dr Laura Izzard, Consultant Physician in General Internal Medicine, Dorset County Hospital. This will be a practical session suitable for trainees of all levels.
Session 1: Protecting our patients. First, do no harm!
The global prevalence of past year elder abuse in community settings is 15.7 % (i.e. approximately 1 in 6 older adults are now abused and /or neglected) as recognised by the World Health Organization. Compared to other forms of violence research on elder abuse especially in institutional settings is still in its infancy. Nonetheless today in addition to exploring the prevalence of abuse, we look at ways in which we can try and prevent the abuse and neglect of older institutionalised adults.
Session 2: We've got to get out of this SPACE! If its the last thing we ever do. So lets us meet on the light side of the moon!
Your mission should you choose to accept it is time critical and as follows:
1.Turn up on time to the trainee session of the SSP. The more of you in attendance the merrier!
2. Get ready to think laterally on your own and with your fellow comrades.
3. Get ready to negotiate a journey through space where you can tap in to your innate leadership, negotiation and diplomacy skills for the greater good.
Society Dinner & After Dinner Speaker
We welcome all guests to attend our society dinner and drinks reception on Thursday 24 October 2019 at the Carnegie Conference Centre. This is a great opportunity to network with other delegates. Our after dinner speaker this year is author and broadcaster, Mr Billy Kay. The dress code is smart for the dinner.
