As in previous years, the St. Andrew’s Day festival symposium for 2023 offers a great opportunity for healthcare professionals to develop and update their knowledge across a very diverse range of topics. Bringing together many different professionals from across Scotland and beyond, the symposium encourages lively debate and discussion, and challenges delegates to consider how their medical practice might evolve.

Some of the highlights in this year’s meeting include -

The treatment of acute conditions in the medical wards and in the community
Personal perspectives on the optimum management of common, and some less common, diseases – including illustrative case presentations
Future therapies – medical and non-medical

I very much hope that, as we are again given the opportunity to meet together in person, the symposium will attract a spectrum of professionals – doctors, physician associates, AHPs, speciality nurses and students. Gathering together to debate and share our experience and knowledge has been the cornerstone of the St. Andrew’s day meeting – don’t miss your chance to be there and contribute!

Event Delivery:

This hybrid event allows the opportunity for delegates to watch the presentations in-person at the College, or online live, or at their convenience for up to 28 days following the original broadcast. There will be a mix of speakers presenting from the College and online via web-link.

Delegates can continue to register for on-demand access only after the live event has taken place. The talks will be available to view on-demand by the second working day after the live event and access closes 28 days after the original broadcast, not after the point of booking.

RCPE are delighted that delegates can again, attend events in person at the College. Delegates can book for in-person, in the College attendance up until the before/day of the event, or for online only attendance up until Friday 15 December 2023. All delegates will have on-demand access to all talks for 28 days following the live event. If you would like to attend in person, please be sure to select the in-person booking option.

Trainees – Scotland Deanery medical specialty trainees can attend any number of eligible symposia for a one-off payment from their study leave budget (block grant scheme).

Free places

Unpaid post – Nil if confirmation of status provided a member of RCPE – please contact the Symposium Co-ordinator.

Refugee doctors – free places are available to refugee doctors who are Associate Members of the College. Associate Membership for refugee doctors is available free of charge. Please visit our website for instructions on how to join, and then apply to the Symposium Co-ordinator for your free place.

Cancellation policy

If you have to cancel your place within seven days of this event, we regret that we are unable to provide a refund. However, you may nominate someone else to take your place at the discretion of the event co-ordinator.

If you are no longer able to attend in-person, you can still view the event online. We will only reimburse the in-person fee under exceptional circumstances. The event will be available to view on-demand for 28 days after the live event, therefore, there is still opportunity to view the talks if you are not able to attend on the day.

In the event that the College is unable to host the in-person element of this event, all those registered to attend the College in-person will be reimbursed the additional in-person fee.

Certificates

All relevant events are approved for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). To receive a CPD certificate delegates must have completed the online feedback survey. The survey will close 28 days after the original broadcast of the event, with certificates being issued shortly after this.

Certificates cannot be issued after the survey has closed.

On-demand Access

All presentations will be available to view on-demand by the second working day after the live event for 28 days, allowing you to catch-up in your own time. All delegates, including those attending in-person, will have access to view the talks on-demand again during this period.

Photography

A professional photographer may be in attendance at this event. Photographs may be used by the College in digital and printed publicity material. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let a member of staff know at the registration desk.

Access

A wheelchair lift and internal lift are in place at the College, allowing access to the conference centre and historic rooms. However, as a listed building, meeting rooms 4 & 5 have restricted access. For further information and assistance, please contact the Event Co-ordinator responsible for the event.

An induction loop system is available in the Great Hall and Conference Centre Auditorium.

Parent Room

We can provide a Parent Room at our events. If you are interested in using this facility, please contact the Co-ordinator for further information.

Exhibitors/sponsors play no part in the planning or delivery of the event and the College has developed an Ethical Sponsorship Policy to support organising committees and committee chairs in their negotiations with potential commercial partners for education and other events.
